Chef Pyet is the first winner of the newest hit show on Fox, Next Level Chef. She’s keen on using her platform to uplift indigenous culture and traditions via storytelling, traveling, and cooking. While on the show she consistently drew inspiration from her culture and upbringing to create unique and mouthwatering dishes. Dishes that Chef Gordon Ramsay, Chef Nyesha Arrington, and Chef Richard Glaze enjoyed each and every bite of. Her brand of love, pride, and spirit is highlighted in each piece of her pop-up, between her team, the artists, and the audience. The Pop-up was an amazing experience, transforming Tokyo Market in LA into a powerful and immersive mix of indigenous culture, food, and community.
Chef’s Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation Tribe Roots
Pyet spent part of her childhood on the Osage Indian Reservation and is a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation Tribe. As highlighted on Chef’s website www.pyetsplate.com:
“Pyet’s passion for cooking developed as a child while being the help in the kitchen. She was intrigued by the spices and aromas in her family’s taquerias and restaurants in the Kansas City area [where she grew up] … Pyet started a personal chef business ‘Pyet’s Plate’ in 2016, to promote her passion for wellness, nutrition, and quality of food to the public. Her focus now is to promote Indigenous ingredients in everyday cooking, while doing so hopes to encourage others to pass along healthy cooking, lifestyle choices, and traditions within their own families.”
Chef Pyet dedicated her win to the people working on themselves for the betterment of future generations. She dedicated her win to her parents and grandparents that helped raised her, to her friends, and to her community. She was built on community and has never lost sight of what she wanted to push and represent as she grew as a Chef, and as a person.
And as highlighted in her winning post on her Instagram page @ChefPyet – “This is more than a cooking competition, this is representing the voices of all that have been silenced. We conquered the table.”
