Growing up as a 1st generation Indian-American in Houston, TX, food has always played an integral part in my life. I have always found myself drawn to the connection people have with food. Whether it was making Rotis with my Nani, watching my Mom put her love into every dish she made or all of the food and culture in the diverse community of Houston I was raised. I couldn’t help but recognize how food forges a connection with those who share a meal.
Now residing in Los Angeles, CA, I’ve taken that passion for food and started to highlight the stories behind the cuisine. SaucyTV is about the culture, how food makes us feel, and the individual stories of many different chefs. I believe that understanding a chef’s vision, signature dishes, art, and inspiration is integral to understanding and appreciating the food they serve.
In one shape or another, we’re all paying our respect to those who came before us, it taps into our Grandparents, ancestors, and beyond. The history behind your food takes a labor of love and elevates it to more. To tradition, deep culturally-linked flavors, and the joy that changes people’s worlds.
Although I have reviewed over 280 restaurants now, I have never lost sight of the work, effort, and time that goes into creating these dishes that represent so much more than ourselves.
I document the joy and satisfaction Chefs have when creating and preparing their dishes. I strive not just to capture that satisfying first bite, but every aspect of the labor of love we call cuisine.
This is only the beginning- food has too much to appreciate for this story to end here.
Now get lost in the sauce, ya’ll.
